While trying to come up with a name for my monthly Liber Academy Commonwealth class, I came up with Mom-ology (the study of me as a mom), or Mom In Training (MIT), but as I got to thinking about those names, I realized they would repel the fathers from taking the class, thus, I have decided upon ParentU.

I will be hosting the Liber Series at my home on Thursday nights twice a month.  I know some of you will only be able to attend once a month so I expect to have two groups.    Additionally, I am opening the class up to parents who are not in Liber Academy, so bring a friend if you wish.  There will be a $3 registration fee.

Class Intro:

Parents, remember the power of your example. Have you been honing your skills on the “You, Not Them?” What is keeping you from getting the kind of education you need?

Gordon B. Hinckley said that along with the need for secular learning, “There is need for another education, without which the substance of secular learning may lead only to destruction. I refer to the education of the heart, of the conscience, of the character, of the spirit—these indefinable aspects of our personalities which determine so certainly what we are and what we do in our relationships one with another.”

As you consider what he has said, think about attending one of two classes that will help you to educate your character and your role as spouse, parent, child, sibling, etc. One class is for those parents who are just beginning their educational journey and the other class is for those seasoned parents who need a program tailored to their needs. Each class will meet monthly at Julie Greenman’s home (or blended, joining via computer monitor) on the first or third Thursday at 7:30. This will be your time to take care of YOU. Remember, “with all thy getting, [let’s] get understanding.” (Proverbs 4:7). If you would like a TJed planner they are $30.

Class details:

Class A (Newbies): (First Thursday) Depending on who signs up, we will determine whether we want to do the Gathering, the Freedom or the Five Pillar projects.

Class B (Seasoned): (Third Thursday) Would you like to delve more deeply into the classics, improve your ability to write or blog, focus on character development, learn to mentor our children better, focus on books that build our faith, etc.? I want to hear from you! Please send me an email (I am on the Liber Academy directory) and let me know what you would like to study.  Some suggestions:

  1. Read classics such as Les Miserables, Jane Eyre, or Anna Karenina and discuss for epiphanies and personal application.
  2. Do the above and learn to write amazing papers about those ideas.

Registration: Be sure to register with the Liber Academy and not on my website.
